about

In listening back to this collection of pieces a few days later, I realise that the simple melodies are often minimal and repetitive. I could have sat down with the recordings on my DAW and changed them. However, I decided not to, even if it was really tempting to try and 'improve' them after the event. It might seem a little pretentious, but I decided to stay with what I said (played) the first time, like sketches in my art classes at college, one take ideas, a sort of moment in time.

This is an album that has grown organically, like much of what I do, it just builds up over time. The tracks are probably too long, but that's often the case when I'm making music. I like to just set up something on the equipment and then play it like an instrument, improvising until the piece sort of suggests its own end.

The pieces on this album rely heavily on processing sounds, and I guess sort of making atmospheres. I'm used to working either as a live musician, or on a computer (Supercollider) where I'd really work on the sounds, but by spending much time rewriting code. Here, as I said above, the whole thing is done using eurorack modular, sequencers and samplers in a few takes - and some experimenting with setting up the patches.

As for the length of the tracks (yes, I know they're probably over long), I was inspired by listening to Robin Rimbaud's album "Reason By Heart, Sleep By Twilight", which spans 50 odd minutes and although very minimalistic, it gradually over time takes the listener on a sort of shamanesque trance like voyage. Anyhow, if you sit back and take the time to give the music a listen, I hope that you'll find something in here that you enjoy.

Joe Higham Brussel, Belgium

Just another musician who's trying to make a living playing music. I play sax and clarinet whilst making noise (whenever possible) using a Deluge, a few modular bits and pieces, or on my laptop via Supercollider.
